Our Program and Curriculum

Foothills Preschool

Preschool and Pre-Kindergarten classes prepare children socially and developmentally with a balance of teacher-directed and child-initiated activities.  The curriculum is a theme-based approach to developmentally appropriate learning centers and is aligned with the State of California’s Preschool Foundations & Frameworks.  Our program consists of a variety of experiences including indoor and outdoor play times, music, literature, mathematical concepts, scientific exploration, creative activities in art, gymnastics, gardening, cooking, character education, dramatic play, sensory stations, and snack time.

Our classes are divided by age into two Preschool Classes and one Pre-Kindergarten classroom. The first preschool class is for ages 2.5 to 3.5 years old and potty trained. The second Preschool class is for children ages 3.5 to 4.5 years of age. Our Pre-KIndergarten class is for children who will be entering Kindergarten the following school year. Famlies are offered the option of sending their child to school 5 days (Monday through Friday), 3 days (Monday, Wednesday, Friday) or 2 days (Tuesday/Thursday). We also offer a choice of times, either from 9am to 12pm, or 8am to 3pm, The core curriculum is taught from 9am to 12pm. In the Pre-K class, the children are not only academically prepared with basic letter/word recognition and pre-math skills, but are also provided with the skills that local kindergarten teachers desire; such as a child’s enthusiasm for learning, ability to listen, desire for independence, communication skills, ability to play well with others, and strong fine motor skills (cutting, holding a pencil, gluing). We routinely get great comments from local kindergarten teachers letting us know how much they appreciate how prepared the children are that come into their classes from Foothills Preschool! Our Parent and Me program is FREE to children 18 months to 2.5 years with a $15 material fee. Held once a week on Tuesday or Thursday mornings, the Parent and Me program includes arts, circle time, reading and play and is tailored to be child's first introduction to "school."
