Meet the Teachers!

Marci Carey, Director - Marci has been with FPS since 2011 and has served as director since 2014. She holds Site Supervisor & Master Teacher permits with the Cal. Dept of Ed. and majored in English at CSUF. Prior to the early childhood education field, she worked in information technology, advertising & publishing. She has many years of experience successfully managing large and small businesses. She lives in Orange with her husband Paul and two sons, Cole and Cash (who is an FPS alumni!) Ruby the puggle dog and Little Kitty the cat. She enjoys live music, art and writing.
Melissa Borboa, Assistant Director & Lead Teacher - Melissai has been with FPS since 2015 and has served as assistant director since 2016. Miss Melissa has been an early childhood educator since 2003 and her experience has been a great asset to FPS. Miss Melissa attained her education in child development at Norco College and completed her administrative ECE classes at Santa Ana College. She lives in Corona with her husband Ken, sons Kobe and Logan, daughter Kaylee and Oreo the teacup pomeranian. Melissa enjoys movies and spending time with her family.
Jennifer Pak, Assistant Director & Mentor Teacher-Jennifer started her career in the field of Early Childhood in the fall of 2013 at Foothills Preschool. She has a BA in Architecture from UC Berkeley and practiced in the field before starting a family. She became a teacher when she realized young children and education are her two passions. Jennifer holds a Site Supervisor Permit and is one of 13 California Mentor Teachers in the OC region. She lives in Fullerton with her husband, Christopher, her three awesome sons, Tobey, Tylo, and Tayton (an FPS alumni!), 2 bunnies, Bilbo and Gandalf, a rescued Cockapoo named Simba, and a tree frog named Kermit. She loves watching her boys soccer games, walks at the beach, chatting with her girlfriends at local cafes, and morning runs.
Glynis Rojas, Lead Teacher & Yoga Instructor- Glynis has been teaching preschool since 2012 and has a degree in Early Childhood Education and is currently working on her degree in Occupational Therapy. She loves to teach preschool because she gets to help children learn in new ways and she also loves that no day on the job is ever the same. She loves to help develop children's imagination and creative skills. Miss Glynis lives in Orange with her famliy. When she's not teaching she enjoys being outdoors, camping and bouldering.
Ann Vitarella, Lead Teacher & Tae Kwon Do Instructor- Ann has been teaching at Foothills Preschool since 2014 and taught at several local Tustin area schools prior to joining us. She has a B.A. in English with additional coursework in early childhood education. Miss Ann previously worked in the field of publishing but volunteering in her children’s schools helped her to realize that the preschool classroom was her true calling. Miss Ann believes that the early childhood classroom should be a place of joy where children have the freedom to play and explore through hands-on learning and are appreciated for their unique gifts and talents. She feels it's a privilege to guide children in their cognitive, emotional, and physical growth during the early childhood years. She lives in Tustin with her husband and is the proud mom of three children. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, doing Tae Kwon Do, and enjoying the great outdoors here in beautiful Orange County.
Monet Granillo, Teacher - Miss Monet has been teaching since 2011. Before coming to Foothills Preschool she was employed by the Norwalk/La Mirada Unified School District, Cerritos Community College Child Development Center and St. John of God elementary school. Miss Monet completed her Early Childhood Education units at Cerritos college and is currently attending California State University Long Beach. Miss Monet loves teaching preschool because she can share her artistic and creative talents with the children. She enjoys watching them grow throughout the year. In her spare time she likes to draw, listen to music and spend time with family
Yohairy (Heidi) Macedo, Teacher - Miss Heidi joined the Foothills Preschool teaching staff at the beginning of 2018. She has wanted to be a teacher for as long as she can remember! She is agraduate El Modena High School's Pathways to Teaching program, in which she excelled. Heidi also completed several internships at various elementary and preschool's as part of that program. She is currently taking classes at Santiago Canyon College with the goal of completing her teaching credential. Miss Heidi loves teaching preschool because she is surrounded by many creative and unique children, and works alongside amazing teachers. She lives in Orange with her parents, sister and brother. In her spare time Heidi like to dine out, spend time with family, go to Knotts Berry Farm, watch movies, shop, go on adventures with friends, listen to music, draw, and go on walks.
Debra Stetson, Teacher & Cooking Instructor - Miss Debra started teaching preschool in 1984. She taught for 10 years, took a hiatus when her son was born, then returned to teaching. She has her B.A. from Cal State Fullerton in Child Development. Debra teaches preschool for the love ot the kids. She loves to see their growth throughout the year, socially, emotionally, and with how much knowledge they learn and teach her! Debra lives in Corona with her husband Dennis, son Daniel who graduated from Cal State Fullerton and daughter Devin, who graduated from the University of California San Diego. She has a dog Cali, and a cat, Punkin. She enjoys spending time with her family at the river, camping, hiking and reading.
Austin Taylor, Teacher - Mr. Austin has been at Foothills Preschool since 2013. He started here as a summer camp counselor while still in high school and has worked almost every position here, including assistant teacher, camp counselor, after school program lead and school age lead. It was working here that helped him realize how much he loves teaching. He has a natural rapport with the children and their parents and they adore him. Mr Austin has completed his core Early Childhood Education units and is working on completing his college degree. In his spare time he likes spending time with his famliy, watching movies and listening to music.

Staff Quick Facts:

  • Character Traits: We look for a special type of person when we hire at Foothills Preschool. All of our teachers must prove their love for young children through demostrating their ability to be kind, warm, loving and consistent. Communication skills are paramount, not only with the children, but with the famillies. A belief in our core principle that children learn through play is a must. We are truly a family of teachers, students and families. Teachers need to be a "fit" in all those areas to ensure success at FPS.
  • Title 22/Education: All of our teachers have completed the core required college units required by the State of California Community Care Licensing Division TItle 22 to be employed as preschool teachers. Many have advanced degrees in Child Development and other fields.
  • Mandated Reporters: Our teachers are legally bound mandated reporters. They have all been certified through the State of California Mandated Reporter training. Mandated reports  are people who have regular contact with vulnerable people (children) and are legally required to ensure a report is made to social services when abuse is observed or suspected.
  • CPR. AED, First Aid: All of our teachers are trained in Pediatric and Adult CPR, AED use and first aid including the use of epi-pens. Training is provided every two years onsite to ensure up to date practices.
  • EMSA: All teachers have completed 8 hours of Preventative Health Training courses mandated by the California Emergency Medical Services Authority.
  • Dept. of Justice (DOJ) Background checked: All Teachers are required to pass a DOJ Live Scan background check before being hired.
  • Hazardous Materials/Pest Control: All teachers have completed and passed the mandated California Community Care Licensing training on the safe use of hazardous materials and pest control in a preschool environment
  • Professonal Development: Our teachers attend at least 2 professional development programs outside of work per year to ensure that our practices are up to date and that we are staying on top of new research in the field of Child Development and the Reggio Emilia/Play based curriculum theories.
  • Master teachers: Some of our teachers are master/mentor teachers in the State of California Early Childhood Mentor Program. Through the program we are recognized as a "best in class" teaching school where student teachers may be placed to complete their practicum work. The California Early Childhood Mentor Program provides resources and support to aspiring and experienced teachers and administrators in programs serving children birth to five and before- and after-school programs using Federal funding.
  • Immunizations: Our teachers are required to be up to date with their MMR, Dtap and Flu vaccinations for the safety and welfare of all of the children and themselves. Verification of vaccinations is required at the beginning of every new school year.
